Main Aims

  • by the end of the lesson, learners will have practiced their reading for gist and detailed comprehension in the context orinising oneself to tavel on holiday

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of plan for the next holiday

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows picture and asks : Where do you think this person is going? is this a good way to prepare the suitcase? Ss: take a guess and give diverse answers

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T: tells ss that they are going to do a questionnaire. Instruction: look at the title and think about what questions might be included S: work in pairs and provide answers T proceeds to pre-teach last-minute holidays CCQ: are they planned? [No] Are they a short time before you travel? [Yes} Travel rep : picture ? Look at the picture . Who is the travel rep, A or B? Sunscreen: picture Travel light: picture. is the person on the pic travelling light? I fancy somewhere different: mimic , person being in an office saying I fancy going on holiday Get round : give an example to elicit answers time line leave things to the last minute : give example Choral drill of whole class on new lexis

While-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T: instructs ss to read the text and see if guesses were correct and answer the questions about themselves SS: after reading in pairs ss compare their answers with a partner; then the read the results to the questionnaire p127 and see if they agree with them FB: few samples from ss

While-Reading (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T: instructs: read the questionnaire again find words or phrases that match the definitions in practice3 of their worksheet SS: work solo then check their answers in pairs FB: T gives key answers and ss compare with theirs Choral drill of whole class on new lexis

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T: instructs answer question of practice 4 and tell your partner SS: work in pairs ; if time allows some ss provide their plans
