Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about regulation and deregulation in the context of international financial industry.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide detailed understanding of the reading with relation to a timeline and international input into regulation and deregulation of the international finance sector.


Warmer (10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Quick in-class competition of meaning & spellings of vocab words used in previous lesson

Pre-Reading (15 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

As block vocab already discussed, students to read, individually, with own answers to Unit 1 Reading - Question 1. PW to confirm correct answers & GW to clarify.

Reading - Timeline (15 minutes) • To provide students with specific information regarding time period.

Unit 1 - Reading, Q2 timeline Draw timeline on whiteboard, and class discussion regarding placement of sentences.

Final clarification of reading (20 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference from the passage.

Unit 1 - Reading, Question 3 Students to consider Q3 individually & then class competition to complete exercise.

Setting homework (5 minutes) • To provide teacher with a sample of written work, showing each student's ability.
