In this lesson, Ss will read about the environment. They will discuss different lifestyles. They will talk about their favorite lifestyles and even try to convince others to follow their lifestyles.

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about News and Views for a Greener World in the context of the environment

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a different lifestyles in the context of the environment


Lead In (3-5 minutes) • -To activate Ss' existing knowledge of the topic. - To generate interest in the topic of the lesson

- To display some pictures and Ss have to expect the main topic of the lesson. - To ask Ss some general questions for discussions. Ss work in pairs. All answers will be accepted.

Prediction Task (4-6 minutes) • To encourage Ss to think about the content of the text and give them a reason to read the text

To ask the students more general related questions about a leaflet. They can check their answers in pairs.

Pre-Teach Vocabulary (4-5 minutes) • To pre-teach/unblock key lexis needed to help Ss understand the text. - To pre-teach/unblock key lexis needed to help Ss complete the next task.

-To get the Ss elicit what a compound noun is. - To introduce the first part of the compound nouns. - To give them hand-outs to form the different compound nouns. - Ss work in pairs. - To give WCFB.

Reading for gist (3-4 minutes) • To encourage Ss read for general understanding. -

-To have Ss elicit that the reading is a webpage which gives information about the environment. - Ss will read to match the photos (A-F) to the stories (1-6). - Ss check their answers in pairs. - To give them WCFB.

Reading for specific infromation (3-5 minutes) • To practice reading for specific information(scanning)

To write some words on the board and to have students scan the text to find where those words are in the text.(in which stories). - To give them an answer key.

Reading for detail (5-7 minutes) • To practice reading for detailed comprehension

Students read the webpage again to complete the stories with the sentences (a-f). To monitor the students during reading. - Students check their answers in pairs when finishing. - To write the correct answers on the board.

Reading for inferrence (4-5 minutes) • To practice reading for inferred meanings

- Ss read the definitions ( 1-5). - Ss read the highlighted words on the webpage. -Ss match the definitions with the highlighted words. -They can check in pairs. To make WCFB

Post reading task (7-8 minutes) • To develop oral fluency on the topic - To provide opportunity to personalize the topic

- To divide Ss into pairs. - To give them hang-outs that have different life styles. - Each one should prepare his ideas about his own lifestyle. Ss work in pairs each ond defend his own lifestyle and try to convince other others to follow it.
