Description

Revision followed by a more thorough study of illness and symptom vocabulary. The students will further develop their ability to articulate opinions.

Materials

Abc Cut-up vocabulary hand-outs from first grid

Main Aims

  • For students to increase their vocabulary and hone their speaking skills

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a S-T opinion in the context of Illness and symptom

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Do hang-man with my name. Followed by backs-to-board. I will briefly introduce myself then ask each student to introduce themselves.

What's the Matter (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with a fun way to enhance their understanding of vocabulary

Hot Potato with pictures of sick people. "Do you like games?" If yes, you will enjoy a game called hot potato. the object of the game is to get rid of all of your cards. The first person to get rid of all their cards after x amount of time wins.

Introduce vocab from Teacher's book p239 (5-10 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Break-up students into groups of three with one set of vocabulary from grid 1. After which assign ex 1 and allow time for completion. After an appropriate amount of time do peer check. Next assign ex 2 and repeat above process.

Extra-time (8-10 minutes) • Vocabulary game

If time play Pelmanism with cut-up words from stage 3. Put Ss in groups of 2/3 and place one set of the cards face down on the desks. The object of the game is to match as many cards as possible. The winner is the one, who succeeds in matching the most pairs.

Free practice (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language
