To provide clarification and practice of Hypothetical Situations in the present in the context of A comparison between past and present
To provide gist reading practice using a text about A comparison between past and present in the context of A comparison between past and present
Procedure (38-60 minutes)
The T starts the lesson by asking the students: "Do you like your look now more than before or do you wish that you stated in the same looking when you were young?" The T tries to elicit from the students to say for example "If I had 100,000$ to spare, I'd probably make my looking better through surgery."
The T will give the SS a handout (HO1) and tells the SS that they have to read fast (Reading for gist) and they must answer the question in the HO1 (What is this text about?). The T sets a time limit of 2 minutes and then, after the time is over, he tells the SS to pair check their answers. ICQs : Are you reading fast or slow? Feedback: WC
Then, the T tries to elicit the target language from the SS by asking: "If you had 100,000$ to spare, What would you do?" Then, the T writes the S answer on the board and then, He asks CCQs: Is this something impossible? Is this in the present or past? Then, The T clarify the form of the sentence on the board and then, the T drill the sentence.
The T will give the SS a handout (HO2) and then, he will asks them to work alone first and then, after solving the first part of the handout the teacher will ask the students to check their answers with their partners. Then, the T gets feedback from the SS By asking the students about their answers. Then, the T asks the SS to do the 2nd part of the handout but this time they must work in pairs. Then, the T gets the feedback from the SS by asking them about their answers.
The T gives the SS a handout (HO3) this handout is controlled practice. The T will divide the class into 2 or 3 groups and then, sets a time limit (5 minute) and then, every group will check the answers of other groups. Then, the T gets WC feedback by asking each group about their answers. Then after that, the T will give the SS free speaking practice, all the SS will stand up and ask each other question about what do they wish now, the answer should be either imaginary thing (Impossible to happen) or not imaginary. Then, the T gets WC feedback by asking the SS about what is the answers of their friends.
