Description

In this lesson, students will be presented to several genres of message writings. They have to do different tasks as a preparation for writing their own message at the end of the lesson.

Main Aims

  • To provide process writing practice (write a text message) in different contexts.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide a range of vacabulary related to text messages.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- Teacher starts by asking students the following questions: - Do you write text messages? why ? - What types of messages do you write? - What is your favorite electronic device to write a message? why? - Teacher gives students HO1 which includes a matching exercise. - Teacher asks students to match letters (ABCD) to numbers (1234). - Students check their answers with each other before a whole class feedback.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through a gap filling exercise.

- Teacher gives students HO2 which includes a gap filling exercise. -Teacher asks students to work in pair and fill in the blank with right phrases in the box. - Teacher asks students to check their answers with the person next to them. - For feedback, the teacher asks students to move around the room and check their answers on the wall.

Useful Language (8-15 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks.

Task 1: - Teacher gives students HO 3 which includes the same text messages. -Teacher asks students to work in pairs and find at least two example of the required items in the messages. - Teacher asks students to check their answers with each other. - As a feedback, the teacher asks students for their answers individually and highlight the meaning abbreviations. Task 2: -Teacher gives students HO4 which includes a chart of two columns (formal/informal) -Teacher asks students to work in pairs and put the messages in the right column. - T asks SS to check their answers with each other. -T gives an answer key as a feedback.

Productive Task(s) (5-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

- Teacher divides the class into four groups. -Teacher gives each group a situation in which they have to write the appropriate message. - Ss are required to stick their paper on the wall for error correction.

Feedback and Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

-Teacher corrects groups' papers and highlight common errors.
