Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will be able to speak with their partners and express themselves giving their opinions about parties.

Subsidiary Aims

  • A brief review of the expressions used to give opinion.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • Activate student`s knowledge of the topic and set context.

T shows the Ss a picture about parties. T elicits some ideas from the Ss by asking them questions: - what do you see on the picture? - do you like parties? - what kind of parties do you like? -have ever had a party at your house? what is it?

Preparing to speak (8-10 minutes) • prepare the students for the speaking task by giving them an overall idea about the topic

T prepares the Ss to do the speaking task exploiting the picture on the student`s book hand out describing people on the picture to introduce the names they have on the cards : Boss, the lazy worker, the gossip and the workaholic. T sets the scene of the speaking task by asking Ss what would they do to break the routine of work. Ss get in pairs and discuss their ideas, then they share them with the whole class.

useful language (3-5 minutes) • provide a review of how to express opinion which they will use in their writing task.

after conducting a whole class correction of the previous activity, T notes on the WB some sentences elicited from the Ss where there are expressions of opinion. T activates Ss` knowledge of the expressions and review them including pronunciation drills.

Speaking task (12-15 minutes) • Enable the students to exchange ideas with their partners, ask/ answer questions to fill in the FSW worksheet.

T divides the class into groups of 4 Ss, A,B,C,D Ss must decide the type of the company they are working for (financial, advertising) and the name of the company. T does a demonstration for the task by asking a S to act together in front of their peers. ICQs to check if the Ss understood the task. -what are we looking for in this activity? -are we going to ask one person? -are going to write the name of the person who says "No"? -can we have the same person`s name more than twice? T. distributes the handouts and the cards for the students. Ss go around the class and ask each other questions that are on the WB. T monitors the Ss by providing them with help and guiding them in case they loose the track. T notes Ss` mistakes.

Feed back/ error correction (8-10 minutes) • Allow the students to report what they have collected from their partners to the whole class.

Ss report to their classmates the information they have collected from their peers to the whole class. T corrects the Ss` mistakes concerning language and pronunciation.
