Description

In this lesson students learn to and practice stress patterns about months and also they learn 4 special day in the calender and if time do writing and reading the date (pronunciation and vocabulary and culture)

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about special day in different month in the context of people talking about special day that they like

Subsidiary Aims

  • Getting students attention on stress pattern of the months and practicing them

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-I write the word (day off) on the board - I ask : which days are off in a week ?Saterday and Sunday - I will ask them to write down five activities that they do on off days and also I give some activities that I do on off days : 1- going to the mall and buy some stuff for the home 2- I cook 3- do some cleaning 4- Watch my favorite movie series 5- hang out with my friends outside 6- ride my bike and go next to the see 7-etc I get them to ask these questions from their partners and change their partners and record what they say and I give them some hand-outs , and monitor them to interview with their partners and give their reports to the other groups in the classroom These are the questions in the hand-outs: - What do you do on an off day? - Where do you go ? - Who do you go with ? - How do you feel ? Get a feedback by asking them give share the answers to the class.

Pre Listening (pronunciation) (10-15 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-I sounds vowel sounds on the board and I ask them to say what they are . -After they do so I write the word "January " on the board and I count the vowle sounds numbers+ y numbers and write them on the board and I ask them to work in pairs and count vowl sounds number +y letter number other months. -give them time to do the activity - I will elicit the feedbacks > I show the syllable of the word "Ja/nu/ar/y "and I will count it and compare it with the numbers of the vowel sound "Ja/nu/ar/y "= 4 syllables - I ask them to do the same action on the rest of the month words (GW) > In order to emphasize that stressed part in that word I will just repeat just the stress syllable of month words five or six times and I ask them to repeat after me .I add the rest of the word to it. And pronounce the whole word and asked them to repeat after me. > Vocabulary part 1: I ask the to listen and repeat I play the audio they repeat,I ask them about syllabes How many syllabes does it have? (Help them if neccessary) -Vocabulary part2: I will explain that they have to write the words based on the the number of syllabes pronunciation in the right column and give them time to find the right column a write the word there -Vocabulary part 3: I will ask him to repeat and give the answer while working in group when I play and pause it I get the feedback after they listen to each word Vocabulary part 4 : I will use the execise 2 in their work book ,I will give them a card with word written on it. and ask them to stand in front of class and I asked the others to help them re arrange their order to get a correct sentence. What is your favorite month? My favorite month is December. Why do you like December ? Because my birthday is in December . I like December because it snows. My favorite month is March because there are lots of flowers.

While-Listening #1 (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

> I showed them pictures and ask them to share the ideas in their group and give the answer -What special day is it ? -What do people do on that day? -Do you have this day in your country ? >Listening part 1: I give instruction about the listening and I ask them to match number with these photos in their group. - I elicit the feedback by asking the answers from the class

While Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

>Listening part 2: I attach four photos in different parts of the class and I also provide them with sentences by sentence transcript of that listening and I will ask them to work in their groups and find : which sentence is goes under which picture and attach it under the picture in their group. - we checked the answers for pictures and sentences and I get the feedback

Post-Listening (5-7 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I will give the listening transcript and ask them to make 1 question about each part and ask and answer in pair (if time do )they change thier partner do the sam activity I get the feed back by asking them to report what their partner said.
