Description

In this lesson, students learn some vocabulary items including adjectives related to the topic to describe strange events. Besides, they learn how to use the new words to speak with their partners. the lesson starts with strange situations which must be matched with words. Then using adjectives to describe the situations. It is followed by a speaking task at the end of the page.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation and story telling in the context of strange and mysterious events

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of adjectives to describe events in the context of mysterious events

Procedure

warmer (1-2 minutes) • to get ss interested in the topic

-put ss into pairs. -show pictures of mysterious events using the projection. -ask ss to describe the pictures with their partners.

Feedback (1 minutes) • to know if students were on the task and check their answers

-ask a few students to describe the pictures to the class -elicit some words such as 'bend', 'telepathy', 'northern lights', 'a pack of cards', 'mysteries', 'spoon'.

pre-teach and teach (1-2 minutes) • to prepare ss to do the upcoming task

-ask ss to match the words with their meanings -put ss in pairs -pass out HO's for ss to match the words with their meanings

Feedback (1 minutes) • to give ss correct answers

-pass out the answer key -ask them to check their answers in pairs

Lead-in and presentation (5-6 minutes) • to draw students' attentions positively towards the new lesson

-put ss in groups to match the phrases with the situations -ask ss to match phrases with related situations

Feedback (1-2 minutes) • to let ss know the correct answers

-ask groups to go around the class to check other groups answers -ask ss to take their own seats -give ss answer keys -ask them to find the answer keys under their own chairs

Preasent vocabulary (4-5 minutes) • to teach ss new words

-give ss some words and ask them to say the antonyms or synonyms -write the synonyms and antonyms on the board to teach them words: (amazing, disgraceful, disturbing, ridiculous, spooky, suspicious, weird)

speaking (7 minutes) • to encourage ss to use newly learnt vocabulary to describe the situations

-put ss in groups of 3 -ask ss to describe the items in ex 1 and give reasons

Feedback (3-4 minutes) • to check their ideas

-ask groups to choose a representative - representatives talk about their ideas to the class

freer activity-speaking (10-12 minutes) • to give ss chance to practice fluency by speaking freely

-put ss into groups -ask ss to tel the group if they know any similar stories

Feedback (4-5 minutes) • to let ss share any interesting stories with the class

-T monitors the groups -finally ask a few ss to tell the class their stories
