Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher asks the question in part A :What kinds of things do people talk about when they are catching up with friends? students make a list in pairs in 5 minutes and then check them in class.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Students listen to CD and take note of the topics that peoples are talking about. then in pairs check if the topics are the same as their ideas in part A or not?

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Do part C

Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Students read and listen to 4.02 and go back to Catching up conversations to find and underline the examples for Present perfect and present perfect continuous.

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Do part 2 / A Class check. while students are reading the answers in turn ,grab their attention to the pronunciation of 've (part 3 Speaking naturally)

Speaking naturally (5-7 minutes) • Reduction of have

Students listen and repeat the questions. listen to 4.04 and write the list of questions.

Semi-Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Students in pairs ask and answer the questions they wrote in part 3.B( track 4.04). change pairs and give the feed back to new partners. Then two or three students tell the class about the most fun or interesting activities their partners has done.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In small pieces of paper write different situations ( meeting your 301 classmate, your ex-boyfriend,your cousin you haven't seen for ages,...) and fold them put students in pairs and ask each pair to choose one paper and make a conversation about it in 5 minutes. then role play them .
