Main Aims

  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about howsework

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher will have an open discussion on what they've learnt from their previous lesson with Cengiz. Then the students will talk about what they know about housework.

Pre-Reading/Speaking (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Teacher will elicit and introduce the target for the new vocabulary words: Housework, laundry, vacuum, cook, ironing, shirt, dishes, childcare, housewife, househusband, clean, childcare using PPT and pictures. Before pic. demonstration, for the word ''housewife'', teacher will draw a house and will write the sembol ''+'' next to the drown picture and will write the word ''wife'' after the ''+'' simbol using the witeboad and will put a picture of a housewife. Doin so, teacher will ask the students to guest the word ''housewife''. The same teacher will do for the word ''househusbant''. Teacher will drill those words with repetition a few times. After that, teacher will ask: ''What a housewife does?'' and ''What a househusband does?'' Ss will try to answer what they know about it.Then, teacher will show the pictures one by one using PPT and will ask:'' What do you see in this picture?'' For every picture, teacher will pronounce the target word and will drill each word with repetition

While-Reading/Speaking (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/speaking tasks

After Ss elicit the pronouns, Ss will be given a handout. Teache will give the instructions for ex.1a, to match a phrase in the box to a picture shown in their handout. For this task, teacher will do a movable sitting. Teacher will ask students to move seats and create 2 groups forming a circle so there will be a large open space in the middle of the room. Then teacher will give students few minutes to do the exercise. After students complete the ex.1a, using PPT teacher shows smaller version of the pictures in a mix order one by one and ask students to write the correct phrase for the picture. For the next ex.2, students will work in pairs. Teacher will pick a student and will show the demonstration by asking the question from giving exercise. Teacher will give Ss a few minutes and then will check the ex. asking each pair.

While-Reading (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed,reading/ scanning, deduction tasks

After that, teacher will give instructions for ex.3a, to look at the text and underline phrases from ex.1a. Teacher will give students a few minutes to read/look at the text in solo and then to check with their partner. After that, teacher will give students the handouts with the answer key.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Then, students will be doing ex.3b. Teacher will ask Ss to read the text again and to answer the questions. Ss will be working in pairs. After that, teacher will ask students to divide in small groups and will give the instructions for ex.3b.İn this ex.Ss will answer the questions and then teacher will ask students to discuss about it.
