Main Aims

  • To provide specific speaking practice in the context of an Indian Wedding
  • To provide specific information listening practice in the context of an Indian Wedding

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide controlled grammar practice of Past Simple with Pair work in the context of an Indian Wedding

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show picture's related to an Indian Wedding and elicit the context for the lesson . What type of celebration is this? What does the woman have on her hands? her finger? Who are the people? How do they look? Ask about Wedding's they have been to in the past. What was it like.

Teach Blocking Vocabulary (6-7 minutes) • To clarify the meaning of key vocabulary items

Elicit the following words: Wedding ceremony, bride, groom and wedding anniversary. After eliciting the meaning, Ask CCQ's (per LA Sheet), write on board and mark the stress. Drill briefly.

Listening #1 (7-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T to give H/O's to students. T to prepare Sts for the listening task by telling them they are going to listen to the groom, Rajeet talk about his wedding anniversary. T to play audio and ask Sts to listen for the answers to the 4c exercise. T to play audio one more time for students to check their answers.

Listening #2 (8-9 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T to play audio again for exercise 4d and ask students to listen and answer these questions. T to play one more time. T to get Sts to ask each other the questions from this exercise in PW and answer them.

Controlled Grammar Practice (5-6 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity for students to practice the past simple of the verb "to be"

T to hive students H/O with Exercise 7 and ask students to choose the correct word..Sts to check the answers with their partner. T to get students to work in pairs to ask and answer the questions.

Controlled Grammar Practice (10-12 minutes) • Students to practice the past simple of the verb "to be "

Students to work in pairs with new partners. Students to fill in the gaps with was were for a party for student A and a wedding for student B. Sts to then work with their partner and ask their questions from their fill in the gaps exercise about the last wedding and party they went to. Students to make notes of his/her partners answers. Students to work with another partner and tell them about their party/wedding.
