In this lesson ss will have practised reading using authentic texts.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Prediction: The teacher will show ss a picture and a headline and get ss to guess what the text will about. The T writes up their predictions on the board for later use. Then elicit and pre-teach vocabulary: give ss a matching task where they will match the words with their definitions.

Pre-Reading (5-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible.Reading for gist. Pre-teach vocabulary

Pre_teach vocabulary. The teacher will provide ss with some handouts: A matching task; ss have to match the words with the right definition. The teacher gives ss one minute to read the text quickly( skimming) Then the teacher will give ss some headlines and titles and ss have to decide wether these titles have a connection ith the text or not. After that the teacher divides the class into 2 goups to do jigsaw reading. each group will read a part of the text.

While-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/ Scanning

the teacher provides ss with some questions baout the text and ss have to read the text quickly and look for specific information.They dont need to read or understand every single words. They have to scan the text. Then ss have to compare their answers with their colleagues.

Follow up; Productive skill (10-15 minutes) • Writing

in groups Ss will do a brainstorming about the topic of the text . The teacher can draw a bubble and get ss involved to write their own ideas and suggestions. Then ss have to start writing a short paragraph about their real-life experience and share their own ideas and thoughts ( as a reply to the article).
