  • To provide clarification and practice of the perfect tenses in the present, past and future in the context of unusual achievemens.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Learners will practice their oral fluency while talking about achivements.

Procedure

Warmer up (5-10 minutes) • To set the context and engage students.

Ask Students to look at the pictures projected on the wall and guess in groups what each person is doing and guess what their achievements are. This is a follow up lesson, so students will have been introduced to achievements in the previous lesson. Set the activity ex.1 pg54 and allow a few minutes to read the prompts. Check answers as a whole group.

Lead-In (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a listening practice.

Put students in pairs and ask them to complete the sentences and find the example. Ex 2a/b check answers as a whole class.

Presentation (10-15 minutes) • To draw the students' attention to the target language.

Students will already have some knowledge of the given language area so the idea is to guide them to work out further rules for themselves. Ask students to work in pairs on the guided discovery Handout to help students understand the general concept. Clarify any misunderstandings by referring the timelines in the book.

Controlled Practice (5-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice.

Draw Students' attention to the pictures on page 55 and ask if they know any of the people in the pictures. Ask if they know what these people's achievements are? Put Students in pairs and allow time to do Ex1, pg 55. Check Students' answers.

Personalisation (3-5 minutes) • To concept check students further and get students to use the Target Language.

Ask students to work in pairs to complete the sentences in ex2, page. 55 Monitor and help with any vocabulary if needed.
