Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T greets SS and tells SS that we will watch a short video. * Have OHP ready for the lesson. -T displays a video of New Year's celebrations around the world. -T elicits info about the New Year . - T asks * What celebration is this? * When is the New Year? * Do all the countries in the world ( China, England, India) celebrate the New Year on the 1st of January?

Pre-Reading/Listening (7-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible.

T reflects a picture of calendar on the WB and asks *What is this? -Calendar T highlights the pronunciation of the word '' calendar'' by using choral drilling. * DO NOT FORGET TO PRAISE SS - GOOD JOB - WELL DONE - GREAT -T uses OHP to display different types of calendars from the text. (Gregorian,Islamic,Indian) -T ask * Do we use the same calendar in all countries? - SS say; no.

Skim Reading (10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

T chests HO1(text) and says Here we have parts of world, look at them.(Give them a minute or two) T delivers the Text. Now you will read the text very fast and tick the parts of the world that text mentions. T asks ICQ's *Are we going to read fast? T delivers the HO - Have SS check their answers in pairs. T: Okay now, tell me on which paragraph the text mentions the countries. For example ; - Does the text mention Western Countries ? on which paragraph? T says 1st.( by showing.)

Reading for details. (15 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T chests HO#2 and says * * Here you have 6 questions. Read these questions first. *Then read the text again and answer the questions alone and write your answers. T ask ICQ's * How many questions do you have to answer ? * Are you working alone or in pairs? * Will you write your answers? Before giving WCFB T asks * Have you finished? T tells SS to check their answers in pairs. T gives WCFB

Grammar (8-10 minutes) • To introduce the present simple negative.

T writes sentences on WB from grammar box. - The Islamic calendar uses the sun. - The Indian year begins in January. T asks SS - Are these(sentences) positive or negative? SS: positive T gives board marker to two SS and wants them to write the negative form of the sentence. T : Please, write the negative form of the sentence. SS: The Islamic calendar doesn't use the sun. The Indian calendar doesn't begin in January. *T writes the form of present simple negative with the help of SS. DON'T FORGET DRILLING. T chests HO#3 T gives instructions * You have 3 questions. * Please work alone and circle the right answer. * You have 3 minutes. T asks ICQ * Are you working alone or in peers? T says *Time is up *T : check your answers together. T gives WCFB . T chests HO#3 T: Here we have text and I want you to fill in the blanks with correct form of the verb. T: You have 5 minutes. *Have them check their answers in pairs. * Check answers together and give WCFB
