Description

In this lesson students will be doing Speaking and use some functional language in the context of inviting someone to a party and either accepting or refusing

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a Inviting, accepting and refusing in the context of Party

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice and clarification of language used for Inviting, accepting and refusing in the context of Party

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1) Ask Students "How can I invite my friend to my birthday party" 2) Elicit some ideas of the students.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

1) Explain that as a class we will write the dialogue of Darren inviting his friend 2) Darren (a) Friend (b) in two columns going down 3) Write the first 3 stages of the dialogue 4) Then give the last 3 stages of the dialogue as labels to each group 5) First group to finish will stick it on the w/b to complete the dialogue 6) Then as a class split it into two. 1) Darren 2) Friend 7) Get A to read Darren and B to read friend in a controlled order by the teacher instructing

Useful Language (8-12 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Play the game DISAPPEARING DIALOGUE. 1) Use the same dialogue on the W/b 2) Get students in to two lines facing each other and lined to next A and B on the W/b 3) Teacher and student does an example 4) Then each pair facing each other read there parts 5) All pairs do this once 6) SECOND TIME TEACH RUBS OR COVERS ONE WORD AWAY 7) So they have to read it and remember what word was there ( testing there memory) 8) Then each pari rub or cover a word for the next pair and they do this twice so they all do the dialogue with very minimal words on the w/b

Productive Task(s) (16-18 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Students will do role play: SET 1: INVITING- REFUSING SET 2; INVITING – ACCEPTING Explaining the instructions: In one set there is 2 people: 1) There is information about your character -read it 2) One will have information of inviting and then Set 1 will have accepting and set 2 will have refusing 3) Monitor an example with a student 4) Let students do this 5) When finished tell students to change color so ALL oranges (Set 1) Change with Green (Set 2) 6) So now they have done both accepting and refusing then get the to change among themselves so they all have tone inviting, Accepting and Refusing

Feedback and Error Correction (6-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Do some feedback and error corrections about the sentences to see if they have understood 1) My party at 6 o'clock OR My party is at 6 o 'clock 2) unfortunately can't come OR unfortunately i can't come 3) Would you like come my party OR would you like to come to my birthday party 4) My party at the Hilton hotel OR my party is at the Hilton hotel 5) Thank you for invitation OR thank you for the invitation - Write these on the W/b get students to answer - Also include any common error corrections done during the role paying
