Description

In this lesson, students are going to focus on their reading skills, learning how to make a card for their mums, and they will learn new vocabularies regarding the lesson.

Materials

Abc flash cards, a handmade card, card boards, colorful markers, reading handouts

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about making a card for your mum! in the context of handmade card

Procedure

Warm up (1-2 minutes) • To make students ready for the class

Entering the class with a smile. The T asks Ss to stand in a line, go toward the T one by one, give her five while saying "hello...how are you? " and get back to their seats.

Pre-Reading / prediction tasks #1 (4-5 minutes) • To set the context, make the text accessible and engage students

1. T writes a statement "think about your mum!" regarding the lesson on the board and wants Ss to guess what the lesson is about?! 2. T shows Ss a handmade card to set the scene. 3. Ss are asked some questions about the card such as: what is it? ,.... 4. Ss are asked to open their books and turn to page 52 (chesting) and make some guesses about the picture.

Pre-Reading / pre-teaching new vocabularies #2 (3-4 minutes) • prepare students for the text, work on new vocabularies

1. T pre-teaches some new vocabularies while eliciting their guesses including " card, cut, rectangle, fold, flower, picture, smile ". 2. Ss are supposed to repeat each new word first chorally, then in small groups and at last individually. 3. While teaching new vocabularies, T asks some Qs to make Ss closer to the topic like: how do you cut paper? ..... 4. Finally, new words are written on the board.

While-Reading / reading for gist #1 (3-4 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist, get the whole idea of the text

1. T writes a big question in another color on the board in order to get the whole idea of the text by students.(Q: How do you make a card for your mum?) 2. Then students are asked to read the text once, find the answer and share it with the class.... T gives whole class feedback. 3. Next, Ss are supposed to listen to the audio track and follow.

While-Reading / reading for detail #2 (2-3 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed comprehension

1. students will read the text again and answer the following Qs in the book. Then, they compare their answers in a pair and at last, some of them will share their answers with class.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

1.T plays the audio again, asks Ss to repeat after each sentence she pauses, T pays attention if Ss follow or not. If any one has misunderstanding or question, T will help them. 2. After that, Ss are supposed to play a reading game: They should read the parts in order. If any one reads with out a mistake, she will stand up and step forward. If not, she can't stand up. After each turn, T asks Ss to repeat the correct sentence which had been pronounced wrongly. and at last, the winner will be rewarded a positive. 3. As the final task, T gives some materials to Ss and ask them to make a card for their mums!
