Listening and Language Focus
Elementary level

Description

In this lesson the SS will be engaged in listening exercises and develop the receptive by listening to both formal and informal conversation and then after aims are completed, work on productive skills with a role play conversation to practice intonation and contextualize the vocabulary.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about Meeting People in the context of A visit, meeting new people, meeting an old friend.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide Semi-controlled speaking practice

Procedure

Stage 1 (Lead-in) (2-6 minutes) • To remember the name of students and the students remember the name of the teacher

- talking with students and asking them some questions.

Stage 2 (Introducing the idea of formal/informal situations) (5-8 minutes) • Understanding the formal and informal situations

Using the pictures from P.14 the T will ask the SS where it is, and if the situation is formal or informal.

Stage 3 (Listening) (5-10 minutes) • To listen to the conversations

Do listening ex.1 and if there is enough time the T will do listening ex.2

Stage 4 (Language focus) (8-15 minutes) • Understanding how to put the words in the correct order

-Doing ex.1 in the language focus part. -Doing ex.2 in the language focus part. -Doing ex.3 in the language focus part.

Stage 5 (Speaking) (10-20 minutes) • To make sure that SS understand the whole lesson

Giving the S a small piece of paper with a name and maybe a job. The SS will go around the class and they will introduce themselves to each other with their new identity.
