Description

In this lesson Ss develop their reading skill through the topic of journeys and travelling. They skim the reading text for gist. Then they scan it for specific information and deduce meaning from context. Ss also talk about journeys and travel. Besides, Ss practice phrasal verbs in the context of travel.

Main Aims

  • To provide The main aims of this lesson is to give Ss practice in reading, in Particular skim reading for gist, scanning for specific information and deducing meaning from context through the context of travel and journeys.

Subsidiary Aims

  • The subsidiary aims of this lesson are: • To give Ss practice in phrasal verbs in the context of travel. • To provide fluency speaking practice.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students, as well as provide the opportunity for vocab related to journeys and travel to be recycled.

Teacher shows Ss some pictures about journeys and travel to elicit the topic.

Pre-Reading (5-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and and predict what kind of content and vocabulary they are likely to read.

Teacher engages Ss in a general discussion about journeys and travel. Teacher writes some words from the reading text on the board. Ss do Speaking, Exercise 1

While-Reading (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with a gist task to the general idea of the reading text.

Ss skim the text silently to understand the gist. Teacher asks Ss some questions related to the gist. and personalizes the topic by connecting it to the Ss' personal experiences.

While-Reading/ scaning (6-7 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed tasks.

Teacher writes some questions on the board and asks Ss to scan the text for specific information. Ss answer the question 2. Teacher write the answers on the board.

While-Reading/ intensive Reading (6-9 minutes) • Ss should be able to understand the text in detail.

Ss read the text silently and intensively. Ss answer Ex. 3. Ss use some of the phrasal verbs in sentences of their own..

Post-Reading (6-7 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss work in pairs to discuss the questions in Ex. 4. Teacher walks around, checks Students' answers and introduces help when necessary
