To provide Ss practice in listening for general information, for specific information and for detials
To give practice in reading for details and speaking for fluency
Procedure (38-47 minutes)
Ask Ss if they know anyone who has been on an unusual journey. Tell them they are going to listen to 3 more unusual journeys, but first they are going to do some new vocabulary.
Tell Ss that before they listen they are going to guess what the stories are about. Show them the pictures and ask them to match the pictures into pairs and to make up a story about an unusual journey that includes two pictures. .
Tell Ss to listen and see if their ideas are correct. Match the pictures according to the listening. Get Ss to check their answers with their partners and then take w/c FB.
Tell Ss to look at Ex.2 and see if they remember which journey matches each question. Give Ss a few minutes to discuss their ideas and try to match sentences. Then Ss listen and check their answers. Then they can check with their partners. Then w/c FB
Tell Ss they are going to read about the 3 journeys, but there are two mistakes in each text. Ss work together to read the texts in ex 3 and find the mistakes. Ss listen again and check. Take w/c FB. Have a short general w.c discussion about the question in exercise 5.
Tell Ss to think of a film, book or tv programme that they have seen or read that involves a journey. Give them the questions in speaking ex 1,P19 and give them a little time to work alone to think of answers to the questions. Ss in pairs then interview each other and tell each other about the book, film, etc. Take some general FB and finish.
