Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of conditionl type 2 in the context of Hypothetical situations

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The class will start by asking the students what they would do if they won a million dollars. first I would say my answer then I want them to answer me

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will use two of my students' sentences to draw their attention to the target language

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will write two of my students' sentences on the board, then I will tell them that we have a main clause and an if clause. I will write the structure of each part, sub+ would/wouldn’t + base form of the verb for the main clause, and if + past tense for the if clause. I will ask them to make the second sentence negative. After that, I will give them the other form of the conditional, where the if clause comes first. Then I will cover contractions I'd.... I will also cover that this type can be used for giving advice by saying to one of my students, if I were her, I wouldn’t do what she said, and draw their attention to the fact that we always use were not was. Last but not least, I will point out the differences between types one and two by using CCQs: Is it possible? Is it unlikely?

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

For controlled practice, they are going to do the gap filling on page 143, 9A part b they will have 2 minutes to check their answers in pairs and share them to the class.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

For free practice, I will ask them if they could have any superpower, what it would be, and why? They will be devided in groups of 3 and have 5 minutes to talk about it and then share their answers to the class
