In this lesson, ss will practise their listening and speaking skills to talk about different types of homes around the world and talk about where they live.

Main Aims

Procedure

Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ensure that the ss' name cards are ready. Ask ss to look at the pictures on the wall and elicit types of homes they know,for example house, flat, igloo

Pre-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Pre-teach vocabulary: Wall: by standing against the wall, and eliciting from the ss what am I standing against? what is this behind me? (a wall) CCQ: Can we stand on a wall? (No) Blinds: by telling the students about the first thing my mom does in the morning to wake me up is letting the light inside of the room by opening these and pointing to the blinds in the room. CCQ: Does blinds cover the light (yes) Verandah: by telling the students about where I like to drink my morning coffee in the summer Example: Outside of my house, I have this big open space where I like to drink my morning coffee and play with my cats. CCQ: Does apartments have Verrandahs ? (no) Near: by standing close to the door and asking students where am I standing CCQ: Does near mean far ? (no) Is jassem sitting next to yessine ? (yes/no)

While-Listening #1 (7-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Tell ss that am going to give them a handout in which they will listen to a tape and match the places with the photos. ICQ: What are you going to do ? (listen and match) Play the tape Do the first one with the ss Ss continue to listen and match the photos Check in pairs Feedback: get students to write the numbers on the board

While Listening #2 (10-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

Tell the ss that am going to give them a gap-fill handout, and they will listen one more time to the tape carefully and fill in the table with the appropriate answer. ICQ: What are you going to do first? (listen) And then? (write) Do the first one with the ss (Candy and Bert) Let them continue Ss check in pairs Play the audio again and let them check again

Post Listening (12-13 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Feedback: get students to look for colored pieces of papers in the corridor and check their answers. Ask ss how was the exercise: easy, difficult.. Tell the ss that they are going to work in pairs and talk about the people in the text. Choose a ss and demonstrate the exercise with him/her for the whole class. T: Candy and Bert live in an old white house Ss: Alise lives in a house near the sea ICQ: Are you going to write? (no) are you going to speak? (yes) Monitor Tell the ss that they are going now to work in pairs and talk about where they live. Give them handouts containing the questions they will ask to their partners. Demonstrate with a ss by asking the questions and get him to ask me back. Ss ask each other in pairs Monitor and take notes Error correction
