Description

In this lesson, sts learn "How often" question forms in Simple Present Tense with the Time Expressions like once, two times, everyday through sentences about habits and routines. The lesson starts with pictures to introduce the topic and goes on with an exercise of time expressions, controlled practice of sentence completion, asking questions with How often exercise and finally a freer practice of sts asking questions to each other with How often and answering with Time Expressions.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Post pictures of 2013 calendar to elicit the words day, week, month and year by asking quesions about each of them. After eliciting them, write what they mean on the board: day, week, month, year. Post pictures of breakfast, lunch (two lunch pictures to elicit have a sandwich and have a lunch) and dinner. Ask what they are. Elicit the words and write the words next to them. Ask "how many meals are there?", How many times do we eat/have meal? Three Times is elicited and written on the board. Ask more questions about number of meals and elicit once, twice, three times and every and write them all on the board. Introduce the two extremes and write them down on the board éevery and never"

Exposure&Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Write make one personal sentence for each time expression that are written on the board. I sleep every day. I go on a holiday once a year. I go to gym twice a week I eat three times a day I never do bungee jumping Ask CCQs to check their meaning. How often do I go to sleep? How often do I go to gym? Show the number with the finger. How often do I eat? 3 times What are they?breakfast,lunch, dinner Drill and backchain drills with the sentences.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ex1 Students fill in the diagram with the Time Expressions in the box in the order from never to everyday. Do one example with Sts and they fill the rest. Sts Check their answers with their pairs and T writes them on the board in the order of the diagram. Sts do ex.2 on their own. They match the question part "how often do you..." with the right verb from the box and make the sentences. They check their answers with their pairs. Post the question part as half of the piece of paper on the board and complete with the correct half and combine the pieces on the board. T puts sts into pairs aloud. A-B, A-B As raise their hands? T models the instruction: I am B. T picks one A. shows the question on the board says "ask me." Sts asks and T as a B gives her own answer.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Chest the HO and give instructions There are 5 answers and no questions. Read the first answer and what is the question? First eliciting and then giving a model: How often does she eat? Write questions alone. Check the answers with pairs and with other pairs. Post the answer key on the board. .

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Sts pair students up and one of the pairs asks three questions to other student and then they change roles. Each one asks three questions and other will answer them. T models it with another a student. T: How often do you read? S: Once a week. T: Ask me a question. Not this question. S: How often do you go to cinema? T: once a month. Sts asks questions to their pairs. T monitors them and at the end ask sts their pairs' answers.
