Description

In this lesson ss will practise the Present simple "there is/are" and question forms in the context of describing living rooms.

Materials

Abc Pictures of furniture
Abc Gap-fill handouts.
Abc powerpoint
Abc Hand-outs
Abc Projector

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of The present simple 'there is /are and question forms. in the context of describing living rooms.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To revise household furniture vocabulary.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show the ss a picture of a messy living room and see how many items they can name. Tell ss to categorise the vocabulary in Task 1. Use a projector to shwo them the 3 categories then tell ss to stick the names or pictures they have on the board.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

Distribute some handouts or magasines and draw on the board two columns : one column for the names of furniture and the second column for the pictures of the furniture. Ask each group to stick either a name of the furniture or its picture. The second group has to match with the picture they have or guess its name.

Task (8-10 minutes) • To prepare ss for the controlled practice of the grammar activity

Demonstrate to ss how to use the present tense "there is /are" to describe the living room of Susie . Demonstrate for them how to use this new form. Do we use 'there is " with singular or plural?

listening (6-8 minutes) • to practise listening for specific information

Show them how to complete the grammar spot. Don't give them answer just elicit answers from students. Demonstrate the task very carefully and provide them with the first example or two examples if needed. Play some music and ask ss to walk and talk to ask other peers questions using the form: is there? are there? Teacher has to closely monitor ss .
