Description

In this lesson, students will be able to develop their skills of skimming for gist and scanning for specific information in the context of an interview for au pair. At the end, students will develop their skills of speaking(as a sub-aim) by using pre-taught TL which is 'can for ability'.

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Sts will be asked to tell their partner ''what you can do, what you can not do?'' -Sts are given a demonstration of the task by their teacher. -Sts are given a time for it, about 1-2 min. -Students are asked about what their partner can do and can not do. (2 min.) -Students are given an oral feedback (1.)

Pre-Listening (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-Students are given a reason for listening a track. -Students are given a task ''write down the names you will hear''. (30 seconds) -Students compare their answers with their partner. -Students are asked to listen again the track for checking answers. (30 seconds) -Students are given feedback.

While-Listening (gist) (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

-Students are given a reason for listening the audio: -Students see a picture of children (to get attention.). -Students are asked to listen carefully and answer the questions which are on the board. (there are two children, what are their names, how old are they). -Students listen. (23 seconds) -Students are given feedback. (1-2 min.)

While-Listening (detailed) (10-13 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

-Students are given a reason for listening. -Students see picture of 2 women talking.(get attention) -Students are asked to listen carefully answer this question (Does Natalie get the job?) -Students listen the track. (1.45 min) -Students are given a feedback. -Students are given a reason for listening -Students are asked to listen carefully again and put a tick on the things Natalie can do. -Students are given a handout. -Students listen the track. (1.45 min.) -Students compare their answers.(1 min.) -Students listen again to check answers.(1.45 min.) -Students are given a feedback.(1 min.)

Post-Listening (10-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and improve their speaking skills.

-Students are asked to write down to HO what they can do and can not do. (1 min.) -Students are asked to stand up and find 2 people, who can do and can not do the same things as you, and write their names. -Students are given a demonstration by their teacher. -Students are asked how many people you will find? (ICQs)-4. -Sts start the task. (5 min.) -Students are given a feedback.
