To develop accuracy and fluency through speaking practice comparing life in the past and now. To support pronunciation awareness . To build confidence and reduce L1 use through structured pair and group work.
Procedure (40-47 minutes)
Show a short video comparing then vs now (e.g., old phones, old school and parenting). Ss discuss differences: What has changed over time? Then Ss write 2 things that have changed in their lives (habits/routines/preferences). ICQs: How many changes? (2) Are they about past vs now? (Yes).
Teacher shares personal examples of changed habits/states using Simple Past + used to: I used to ride a bike to school.- I did not use to like fish.-I used to listen to Westlife. Ss listen and identify which habits/states are mentioned.
Ss read a short text about the teacher. Ss underline the structure of used to. Elicit: What comes after used to? (base verb)-Is it past or present? (past)-Is it still true now? (no)
