  • To promote confident speaking and group decision-making.
  • To encourage reasoning and justification of answers.
  • To increase motivation through gamification and competition.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • Create interest and organize students for collaborative game.

The teacher tells students they will play a Jeopardy-style game. Explain briefly that they will choose categories and points. Divide the class into two teams of four. Explain that teams can discuss quietly before answering.

Explanation (3-5 minutes) • Understand the dynamic.

Explain the rules step by step: One team chooses a category and point value. The teacher reads the question. Teams discuss for a short time. One student answers for the team. Clarify: Full sentences are encouraged, not required. The teacher decides if the answer is acceptable. Correct answer = points added; incorrect = other team can try. Demonstrate one easy question.

Game! (35-40 minutes) • Promote speaking, listening, and reasoning through repeated rounds.

Teams take turns choosing categories and point values. The teacher reads the questions clearly. Allow 30-45 seconds for discussion per question. Encourage justification: Why? How do you know? Special rule for NAVLE category: Fewer questions Higher points Teams must explain their reasoning briefly

Final Question (3-5 minutes) • Create excitement and maintain engagement until the end.

Offer one final double-points question (any category or NAVLE). Both teams answer. Reveal answers dramatically.

Warm-up (3-5 minutes) • End the session positively and reinforce confidence.

Announce the winning team. Ask quick reflection questions: Which category was difficult? Which one was fun? Praise teamwork, effort, and participation.
