Description

In this lesson students will how listening for gist and specific information in the context of the internet. then students will share some information about their own favorite websites and why they like these websites through a speaking activity.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T starts the lesson by greeting the ss. ask the ss a question " do you use the internet?", elicit the answer, the follow the question by asking why do you use it ? listen for different answers. ask two ss of different age to lstand up and ask them specifically why do you use the internet, to elicit that people of different ages use the internet for different reasons. put some pictures of different people on the board and ask the ss to work in groups and guess why do you think these people use the internet? listen to some answers.

Pre-teaching Vocabularies (4-5 minutes) • To teach ss some key words to help them understand the text.

before asking them to listen to the audio, explain some words that students might not know. google (v), showing them a picture then asking them if we can use it as a verb. Wikipedia,show them a picture then ask them what can we find here, elicit almost everything science tell them what do call biology and chemistry. find out give to them and tell them that it means to discover. fantastic tell them something which is extremely good what do we call it.

Listening for gist (4-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

tell the students that they will listen to these people whose pictures were on the board, and ask them to listen and see if their answers were correct or not. students will lesson to the extract then will say what was correct and what was not.

Listening for specific information (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging task to concentrate on specific information.

give the students some hands out (new headway beginners student's book page 85 ex, 60) and tell them that they will listen again but this time they will listen and answer the question about each person. students will listen for the first time then T will ask them to check their answers with their partners. then ask them to listen again and make sure of their answers. when finish teacher ask them again to check the answers before the wc fb.

Post-Listening activity (12-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and share some ideas about themselves.

divide ss into groups of 3 or 4, ask them to mention other uses of internet along with the websites they use and why it is useful, for example,"bein sports you can see all the news about the sports on this site". give them five minutes to this part of the activity. later regroup them so each one from each group will meet other people from different groups, then ask them to share their ideas with their new partners and tell them to agree on the one they think has the best ideas. keep monitoring during this and give help if needed. errors correction and feedback.
