Procedure

Lead-in Good idea or bad idea? (5-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher writes the following ideas on the board: A red bedroom A yellow kitchen A black living room A white study Instruction: Talk to your partner. Are these good or bad ideas? Why? Learners discuss in pairs. feedback.

Pre-Reading (5-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

3/4 blocking words (GIRLIE, SCHEME, DISCOURAGE, CUSHIONS). Meaning, form and pronunciation are clarified. Learners complete a short matching. Whole class feedback.

GIST (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Instruction: Read the text quickly and choose the main idea. Individual reading + gist task on Google Forms (3 min). Pair check in breakout rooms (2 min). Open class feedback (2 min).

Reading for Specific Information (13-14 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

Instruction: Read the text again and decide if the sentences are true or false. Individual reading + T/F task (6 min). Pair check in breakout rooms (3 min). Open class feedback with justification (4 min).

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Learners discuss in pairs or small groups: Do you agree with the article’s ideas about colours and mood? Why / Why not? Which colour from the text would you never use in your home? Which room in your house would you change after reading the text?

Delayd Error Correction (3 minutes) • Correct common errors.

The teacher writes examples of errors heard during the speaking task. Learners suggest corrections. The teacher confirms correct forms.
