Main Aims

  • To reinforce students' understanding and use of Week 4 grammar and language through guided review activities and a short test.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To activate previously learned grammar in a low-pressure speaking context.
  • To promote learner autonomy through reflection on mistakes.
  • To allow students to demonstrate independent grammatical control.

Procedure

Activation (25-30 minutes) • Reactivate irregular past verb forms in an energetic and team-based way.

Write a list of 12 base-form verbs on the board (e.g., go, see, eat, have, take, get, give, buy, find, speak, write, make). One student at a time runs to the board and writes the past form of one verb. Run back and tag the next person. After all verbs are filled, go through and check as a class.

Fix It or Keep It (35-40 minutes) • Strengthen accuracy through peer discussion and retrieval practice.

Give each student 10-12 sentences related to Week 4 grammar (some correct, some incorrect). Groups decide whether to: Keep the sentence (correct), or Fix the sentence (incorrect) For each corrected sentence, students must agree on the correct version. Conduct brief whole-class feedback, confirming answers without extended explanation.

Transition to the test (5-5 minutes) • Give the necessary instructions to the students in order to prepare for the test.

Clearly explain: The test covers only Week 4 topics It is individual and silent Duration: 40 minutes Answer procedural questions only. Distribute the test face down.

Weekly Test (35-40 minutes) • Reinforce the use of past simple and connectors.

Students complete the test individually. Teacher monitors quietly and takes notes for future correction lessons. Give a 5-minute warning. Collect tests at the end of the session.

Closure (3-5 minutes) • End the class calmly after assessment.

Thank students for their work. Remind them that corrections will be done in the last class of the week. Briefly preview Tuesday's topic: expressions of existence.
