Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

•Teacher asks: •Have you ever stayed in someone’s home? •Teacher shows pictures of a hotel and a rented room and askes: •Do you prefer hotels or staying with people? Why? •Students discuss briefly in pairs. •Quick whole-class feedback

Reading for gist (5-6 minutes) • To help Ss understand the main idea.

•T asks Ss to read the two reviews quickly and answer: •Did Deborah and Nico enjoy their experience? Why / Why not? •Ask Ss to share their answers in pairs. • discuss answers with them.

Reading for specific information (6 minutes) • To develop reading for specific information

1.T directs students to the task: •Circle the words in the text that mean the following. 2.Ss work alone to find: •guest •explore •landmarks •host 3.Ss share their answers in pairs. 4.T shows answer key and drills pronunciation where necessary.

noticing (4 minutes) • To help students notice target language in context

1.T says: •Read the reviews again and underline sentences with if or when. 2.Ss work in pairs and underline examples. 3.T elicits sentences: •When I’m with my guests, I always have a good time. •If you stay in someone’s home, you get a good idea of life there.

Clarification (7-9 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Meaning 1.T focuses on one sentence: •If you stay in someone’s home, you get a good idea of life there. 2.Teacher asks CCQs: •Is this one sentence or two? two •can i use the first sentence alone? no •Is it a general truth? yes •how sure is the result? 100% pronunciation •T uses finger drilling. •drill chorally and individually Form •T writes the form: if + present simple , present simple. Ask CCQs: is it one or two sentences? two are the two sentences in the present? yes can i use if in the meddle? yes T gives another example with "when" and explains that if and when are often interchangeable.

Controlled Practice (5 minutes) • To practice target language communicatively

1.T gives instructions: •Complete the sentences so they are true for you: (SB activity 3C page 77) 2.Ss complete alone 3.T monitors for form accuracy. 4.Ss share in pairs 5.Whole-class feedback and correction.

Productive Task(s) (10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

1.T sets the task: (SB activity 4A page 77) •Imagine you are a host for tourists. 2.Ss respond to the prompts. 3.T TELLS Ss to ask each other the questions and share the answers. 4.T monitors to check the use of TL 5.Feedback and praise Ss.
