To provide practice and clarification of trip words and expressions in the context of transportation
Procedure (18-45 minutes)
- T shows a picture of a road trip in a bus from a popular Egyptian movie - T asks questions to generate interest in the topic: "what do you see?" "do you like to travel?" "do like road trips?" "how do like to travel, car, bus or train?" "what do you think we're talking about today?"
-(Book 8.2 – Activity 1A): - show activity 1a and tell Ss to listen to a journalist and answer: "what is she talking about?" " choose from the three options." - ask ICQs: "are you listening for details or to answer on question?" on question "do you need to understand every word?" no - play audio - ask Ss to discuss answers together - T monitors
- T plays audio again - ask Ss to answer the following questions: 1- Where does the trip start? 2- Where does it end? 3- How long is the trip? 4- Who does she meet?
- Ss look at the bold words in the listening text. (Book 8.2 – Activity 2A / B) - They match them to pictures A, B, C. - Ask them to Pair work. - Whole-class check. - Elicit answers. - play audio for activity 2B - They answer by writing the bold words in the correct picture - Ask them to Pair work. - Whole-class check - Elicit answers, no explanations yet.
- Convey: Use examples from the listening text. - Elicit: Students explain meanings in their own words. - Check: Use CCQs. - Drill: Choral then individual drilling, focusing on stress and chunking. - Write: Write idioms and highlight fixed form and collocations.
- T asks Ss to read the text. (Book 8.2 - activity A page 148) - They circle the correct verb (get on / get into / catch / miss / etc.). - Individual work then pair check. - Whole-class correction (if time allows OR as extension) answer activity 4 - Students choose verbs from the box and complete the messages.
(Book Activity D): - Students discuss in pairs: - Would you like to take a four-day trip? - Would you prefer a car, bus, or train? - Where would you like to go? Why? - T gives instruction to use at least 2 transport verbs. - T monitor and note errors
