Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T shows a picture of a road trip in a bus from a popular Egyptian movie - T asks questions to generate interest in the topic: "what do you see?" "do you like to travel?" "do like road trips?" "how do like to travel, car, bus or train?" "what do you think we're talking about today?"

prediction (listening for gist) (3-4 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-(Book 8.2 – Activity 1A): - show activity 1a and tell Ss to listen to a journalist and answer: "what is she talking about?" " choose from the three options." - ask ICQs: "are you listening for details or to answer on question?" on question "do you need to understand every word?" no - play audio - ask Ss to discuss answers together - T monitors

Listening for Specific Information (5 minutes) • To develop listening for specific information

- T plays audio again - ask Ss to answer the following questions: 1- Where does the trip start? 2- Where does it end? 3- How long is the trip? 4- Who does she meet?

Noticing (Language from Text) (5 minutes) • To help students notice target idiomatic language in context

- Ss look at the bold words in the listening text. (Book 8.2 – Activity 2A / B) - They match them to pictures A, B, C. - Ask them to Pair work. - Whole-class check. - Elicit answers. - play audio for activity 2B - They answer by writing the bold words in the correct picture - Ask them to Pair work. - Whole-class check - Elicit answers, no explanations yet.

Language Clarification (MPF) (7-9 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

- Convey: Use examples from the listening text. - Elicit: Students explain meanings in their own words. - Check: Use CCQs. - Drill: Choral then individual drilling, focusing on stress and chunking. - Write: Write idioms and highlight fixed form and collocations.

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To practice target language communicatively

- T asks Ss to read the text. (Book 8.2 - activity A page 148) - They circle the correct verb (get on / get into / catch / miss / etc.). - Individual work then pair check. - Whole-class correction (if time allows OR as extension) answer activity 4 - Students choose verbs from the box and complete the messages.

Freer practice (10 minutes) • To practice target language communicatively

(Book Activity D): - Students discuss in pairs: - Would you like to take a four-day trip? - Would you prefer a car, bus, or train? - Where would you like to go? Why? - T gives instruction to use at least 2 transport verbs. - T monitor and note errors
