To provide practice, clarification and review of globalisation related vocabulary terms.
Subsidiary Aims

To provide students the opportunity to produce language and practice the use of the vocabulary words in conversation context.

To provide meaning, form, pronunciation and stress for the select vocabulary words.
Procedure (35-44 minutes)
Introduce the concept of globalisation. Provide visual image to trigger discussion. Ask the students the following question "What does globalisation mean to you?" Discuss what it means to everyone.
Present the students with the reading passage that contains the target language. The words will be highlighted in blue to bring attention to them. Globalisation Immigration Emigration Cultural Religious Diversity Ask the students, "What do these words have in common?" Answers will vary but should relate to qualities of multicultural societies.
Introduce students to the to the target language Provide the students the vocabulary words. Discuss meaning, form, pronunciation and stress. 1. Globalisation- The integration of countries around the world to become more connected by sharing goods, people, ideas, and culture Form: Noun Pronunciation: /ˌɡləʊbəlaɪˈzeɪʃən/ Glo-bal-i-za-tion 2. Immigration- The action of coming to live permanently in a foreign country. Form: Noun. Pronunciation: /ˌɪmɪˈɡreɪʃən/ Im-mi-gra-tion 3. Emigration- The act of leaving one's own country to settle permanently in another. Form: Noun Pronunciation: /ˌemɪˈɡreɪʃən/ Em-i-gra-tion 4. Cultural- Relating to the ideas, habits, beliefs, traditions, customs, and social behavior of a society. Form: Adjective. Pronunciation: /ˈkʌltʃərəl/ Cul-tur-al 5. Religious- Believing in a god or a group of gods and following the rules of a religion. Form: Adjective. Pronunciation: /rɪˈlɪdʒəs/ Re-li-gious 6. Diversity- A range of different things, often referring to the range of human differences, including different backgrounds, languages, gender, sexual orientation and religions. Form: Noun . Pronunciation: /daɪˈvɜːsəti/ Di-ver-si-ty
Provide students with text that contains the target language and have them answer questions to test their understanding. Have student answer CCQ on their own and then discuss with other students.
