Description

This lesson introduces and practices possessive adjectives and possessive pronouns to express ownership clearly and accurately. Students explore meaning and form through guided discovery, practice with controlled and semi-controlled tasks, and produce language in communicative situations related to daily life and veterinary contexts. Vocabulary of the day supports discussion of spaces, decisions, and clinic materials.

Main Aims

  • To differentiate the possessive adjective from the possessive pronouns and use them correctly.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Use possessive pronouns accurately (mine, yours, his, hers, ours, theirs).
  • Use possessive adjectives accurately (my, your, his, her, its, our, their).
  • Distinguish between possessive adjectives and possessive pronouns in context.
  • Use new vocabulary to talk about ownership and responsibility.

Procedure

Activation (25-30 minutes) • Activate memory, observation, and spontaneous speaking in a fun, general way; build focus and group interaction.

Teacher places 10 objects (ish) on a desk (markers, book, bottle, keys, papers, etc.). Students observe silently for 1 minute. Students turn around or close their eyes. Teacher removes 2-3 objects. Students turn back and guess what is missing. Repeat several rounds. Then, students work in pairs and take turns being the "changer" and the "guesser."

Vocabulary (12-15 minutes) • Introduce and practice vocabulary needed to talk about places, decisions, and clinic materials.

Vocabulary of the day: waiting area, personal decision, idea, option, future date, dosage, syringe size, supplies. Arthritis, lameness, hip dysplasia, conjunctivitis, corneal ulcer, glaucoma. -Teacher writes each word on the board. -Teacher gives one clear example sentence per word. -Students repeat pronunciation. -Each student produces one sentence per word.

Presentation (35-40 minutes) • Help students understand how possessive pronouns and possessive adjectives works.

Teacher projects a chart with the possessive pronouns and adjectives, and a presentation of the correct use and the position in a sentence of each category and some examples. Remark the differences between them. Ask students for some examples of their own.

Exercise (30-35 minutes) • Identify and use each form of possession correctly.

Exercise 1. Choose the correct possessive adjective. Give them 10 min to answer. Check the exercise together. Exercise 2. Complete with the correct possessive pronoun. Give them 10 min to answer. Check the exercise together.
