The verb to look with prepositions

Description

This lesson focuses on teaching the verb look with prepositions such as at, in, for, through TTT approach. Students are first encouraged to use the target language to identify their existing knowledge. and then teach them to understand and use in real life situation.

Materials

Abc Verb to look + preposition + object , handouts, the board, worksheets

Main Aims

  • The students at this level understand the verb to look; however they are confused about understanding and using its meaning when followed by different prepositions.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To help the students to distinguish between the several meanings of verb look + prepositions and enhance their confidence while using it.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The instructor greets the learners and briefly check with them if they need any help with the previous lesson or assignment. The instructor start by asking a couple of simple general questions that serve to elicit their knowledge about the verb look.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

The instructor writes a few sentences with the verb and ask the students to identify the correct preposition; this help also to test their knowledge and prepare them for the lesson.

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

The instructor clarify and explain the key aspects of the targeted language that the learners found challenging in initial testing stage. The instructor detect the mistakes and misunderstanding and give corrective training to fix errors. The instructor ensures that the learners start to comprehend the form, meaning and applications.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

A follow up task is done here, the instructor can compare the results of this test to the result of the first. This is to assess the learners progress.

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

To provide the learners with free practice of the target language. Allow the students to use the target language. The learners do this thru group discussions, pair discussions, role play

A short pair discussion that allow the students to discuss freely on their own the target language creatively and communicate with confidence as in real life.
