In this lesson Ss will be introduced to some vocabulary and qualities related to the theme of heroisim through a poem entitled" Gilgamech".The lesson covers a variety of vocabulary.

Main Aims

  • • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice text about the epic hero"Gilgamesh"

  • • To provide clarification and practice of vocabulary related to heroism

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T welcomes the Ss with a smile. T shows the students some pictures about historical heroes and heroines on the board. T asks the Ss ;Do you these people ? Ss discuss the pictures in pairs. Ss share their ideas about the pictures with the whole class. ,

Gist reading (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T writes 3 clues sentences on the board (about the main idea of the text) T tells the Ss to read the sentences quickly. T hands ths text to the Ss T tells the Ss to read the text quickly then to choose the right sentence T feedback about the task

Reading for specific information (3-8 minutes) • To provide students with challenging detailed information

T sets the True/False task T instructs the Ss about the task Ss read the sentences first Ss read the text for detailed information Ss write True or Flase Ss discuss their answers in pairs T feedback about the task

Reading for detailed information (2-6 minutes) • To scan the text for detailed information

T sets the task to the Ss T instructs the Ss about the task T checks if the Ss uderstand what they will do Ss will read the questions on the HO then scan the text Ss work alone T tells the Ss to woin pairs and check their answers toghether T monitors Ss answer the questions T feedback

Reading for lexical inference (2-5 minutes) • to guess the meaning of the words tthrough the constext

T gives the Ss a key words matching task Ss have to refer back to the text to guess the meaning Ss work alone then check their answers with their pairs

Teaching-vocabulary Clarification of the meaning (3-6 minutes) • Clarification of the meaning,form and pronounciation of the TL

T extracts some vocabulary from the text( defeated, den,greives....) T clarify the form,meaning and pronunciation of the TL T drills the words on the board with the Ss

controlled practice (3-7 minutes) • To provide students with a language task

T instructs the Ss about the matching task activity Ss have to match the words with the right definitions Ss work alone T monitors Ss check their answers in pairs T feedback about the task

Post-Reading activity/speaking activity. (3-10 minutes) • To provide students with a speaking task

T sets the task and gives instructions T shows the Ss pictures of contemporary and ancient heroes/heroines . T gives the Ss information and prompts about the pictures in the task T divide the Ss into groups/pairs Ss will choose one picture then talk about it Ss work in pairs discuss the qualities of the heroes/heroines and their achievements if they know T monitors Ss swap their partner and the pictures T corrects the errors of the Ss if there is any
