In this lesson, students will learn how to use wh questions. I will start with making up a memory of a vacation. Then students will ask questions about the details of the holiday. Later on, they will talk about their last vacation. The class will end with a writing activity

Main Aims

  • To provide product in writing with answering wh questions in the context of 'my last holiday'.


Lead in (3-3 minutes) • To introduce the context to the Ss.

-ppp on. -t points to the pictures. asks what they are. -elicits vocab that ss do not know. -"What is today's topic?' - elicit Vacation/holiday

Pre-speaking activity (5-5 minutes) • To get the ss interested in the topic

-"take a look at the pictures" -"the first one is a vacation in the mountains" (elicit mountain) -"second one ......" (by the beach) -"third one ..... " roadtrip if T cannot elicit roadtrip, gives an example. "fourth one...... " culture/history vacation/tour "fifth one........ " vacation in winter -"think for a second. which one is your favorite?" "why" -ask some ss about their ideas. -vote for each. write 1st and 2nd for the ones that get the most votes.

Elicit the TL (10-10 minutes) • To give the Ss an opportunity to remember the TL

There are guidelines and questions for each pic on the ppp. open up the one that they voted for. "let's say I HAD a vacation here." "We will create a memory" CCQ; are we talking about the past? or future? Elicit on timeline students pair up. discuss possible answers to the questions. for 1 min. get ideas from ss. record now, elicit questions to get these answers. again, ss work in pairs. "alone or in pairs?" "are you writing or talking?" elicits all the questions.

open up the second best pic. this time, there are some adjectives. repeat the process, but add adjectives in them. (elicit) "we will do the same thing, but this time we have some adjectives" "Do you see any questions on the ppp?" no ss pair up and make up the questions without any help on ppp. Monitor. immediate error correction.

Free(r) speaking practice (7-7 minutes) • To personalize the topic and provide fluency
