Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of the superlative adjectives in the context of reading about the biggest department store.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To get the students exposed to the text and the theme,by providing gist and detailed activities in the context of reading about the biggest department store.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3 minutes) • To generate students’ interests in the topic.

The t starts by asking the ss the following: - When was the last time you went to a mall? What did you buy? The T listens to ss, then elicits the meaning of the blocking word ' department store' show a picture. ask CCQs : Is it small or big? Can you find 1 thing or different things? Does it have 1 part or many parts? - In pairs, you have 2 mins to discuss these questions.:

Exposure (6-7 minutes) • To get the students exposed to the text and the theme, (Gist)(detailed)

The T sets the context of the paragraph and gives them instructions. - Now we will read a paragraph about the Shinsegae department store. - (Gist) Alone, in 1 min: Read and answer the question: - in pair, in 1 min: the t asks them to check their answers together: - T show them the answer. -(Detailed) Alone, in 2 min: Read again and answer the question: - in pair, in 2 min: the t asks them to check their answers together: - T show them the answer.

Highlighting (3-4 minutes) • To get the students notice the target language

The T asks the Ss to complete the sentences: - Check your answers together - Show them the answers

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To introduce the target language from the text using “CECDW”

- T shows Ss the sentence "Shinsegae is the biggest mall." -T asks them CCQs about meaning and the use: Is it small or big? Is there anything bigger than it? -T hides the sentence and asks them to repeat backchaining - T starts eliciting the form by showing some sentences (one after one) then asks CCQs: 1. "It is one of the newest" Do I say newer or newest? Do I say newest or the newest? Is it a one-syllable adjective? -T sets the rule a one-syllable adjective = add the adjective +est 2."Shinsegae is the biggest mall." Is it a one-syllable adjective? Does it end with C.V.C? Did I double the “g”? -T sets the rule a one-syllable adjective + cvc= double the last letter 3."..Some of the most beautiful views." Is it a one-syllable adjective or more? Do I say the beautifulest or the most beautiful? -T sets the rule two or more syllables adjective =the most + adj 4.It’s one of the busiest shops. bu.zy Is it a one-syllable adjective or more? Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To practice the TL in controlled activity (accuracy-based)

- T asks Ss to complete the questions with superlative adjectives Alone in 2 Min - Ss check the answers together in 2 min - T shows them the answers.

Semi-Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • -To practice the TL in less controlled (semi-controlled) practice.

-T asks them to write 5 questions (or more) using some prompts : T models with Ss Alone in 3 min -T shows the answers and asks them to check them.

Free Practice (7-8 minutes) • -To practice the TL in a freer activity (fluency- based)

-T asks Ss to ask and answer the questions they made together in 7 min. - T sets the purpose (see if you have similar answers)

Feedback and Error Correction (2-3 minutes) • -To give the students the chance to react  to the content of the reading/listenin g in personalized and fluency- based activity -To correct any errors have been accrued during the tasks

- T asks Ss, "Do you have similar Answers?" to check the content feedback - T writes some sentences and elicits the correction from Ss
