Main Aims

  • To provide clarification in the context of planning

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of planning

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The class will start by talking about what I plan to do next week. It will be followed by asking the students to write 3 things they want to do next week.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

To draw the students' attention to the target language, I will write 2-4 sentences from students' answers on the board. Then I will explain the use of will/ won't and how it used before the base form of verbs.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

To clarify meaning, form, and pronunciation, I will draw a simple timeline and ask CCQs such as: Are we talking about the past, present, or future? (Future)/ Is the decision made now or before? (Now / at the moment of speaking)/ Are these plans 100% certain? (Not always) Then I will elicit the form from the students: Subject + will + base verb Subject + won’t + base verb I will also model question forms: Will + subject + base verb? I will clarify pronunciation: will → /wɪl/ won’t → /woʊnt/ I will also highlight common contractions: I’ll, you’ll, he’ll.

Controlled Practice (4-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students are going to fill out the blanks on page 138, part 6A, in 3 minutes. Then they will have 2 minutes to check their answers in pairs. After that, we will check the answers with the whole class.

Free Practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

To wrap things up, the students will be in small groups. And they will all talk about a year from now. They should talk about their studies, relationships, work, what they won’t do anymore, and what they want to add to their life. Each group shares one interesting prediction with the class. I'll just take notes and wait for delayed corrections.
