Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T shows a picture of people sharing a flat. - then askes: do you live alone or with other people? is sharing a flat easy or difficult? - after discussion send them to breakout rooms to discuss the following question: what makes a good flat mate?

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

- share emails from SB. page 116 - ask them to read and answer the following questions: ( grammar focus 1 activity 2) which person do you think sounds like the best new flat mate? why? - check answers with them. - listen to audio of Maddie and Tom discussing the emails and answer : (grammar focus 1 activity 3) did they choose the same one as you? do you think they have made the right decision? why / why not ? - check answers with them

Highlighting (3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

- ask Ss to read the emails again and write sentences related to life or work. - show them example: I've been living with my aunt ... - ask CCQs: are these actions finished? no did they start in the past? yes are they still true now? yes

Clarification (5-6 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

- show a simple time line and ask CCQs: did fabio start living with his aunt in the past? yes is he living with her now? yes do we know exactly when he will stop? no - draw the details on timeline while asking. - write the form: have/has been + verb-ing - give examples: I've been living she's been working - ask CCQs: do we use have or has with he? has what comes after been? base verb or verb-ing? verb-ing did they use contracted form like I've and he's ? yes - elicit the use of for and since and show examples : for three years since 2022 - draw the details on timeline while asking. - ask CCQs: does for show a period of time? yes does since show a starting point? yes

Controlled Practice (5-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

- ask students to answer activity 1a - ask them to share their answers. - check answers with them. - ask student to answer activity 1b and use the emails to complete - ask CCQs: are you using your own ideas? no is there only one correct answer? yes - ask them to share their answers. - check answers with them.

Semi-Controlled Practice (2-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

- ask Ss to answer activity 3a about themselves - ask CCQs: are you writing information about you? yes does it have to be true or you can invent? invent - ask then to share their answers in the group chat

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

- tell Ss to ask and answer questions about eachother's information - provide them with prompts - monitor to make sure they are using the target language. - praise them foe correct use of TL - correct any mistakes.
