In this lesson Ss will be introduced to some vocabulary and qualities related to the theme of heroisim through a poem entitled" Gilgamech".The lesson covers a variety of voacbulary.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading prcatice text about the epic hero"Gilgamesh"

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of vocabulary related to heroism


Warmer/Lead-in (3-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T welcomes the Ss with a smile. T shows the students some pictures about historical heros and heroines on the board. T asks the Ss to dicuss the constetoftshe pictures in pairs. Ss share their ideas about the pictures with the whole class.

Pre-Reading:gist reading (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T writes 3 clues sentences at the board about the possible main aim of ths text. T tells the Ss to read the sentences quickly. T hands ths text to the Ss T tells the Ss to read the text quickly then to choose the right sentence T feedback about the task

While-Reading:reading for specfic information (3-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging specific information reading

T set the task T instructs the Ss about the task T hands the Ho to the Ss Sutdents work alone T monitors the classroom T tells the Ss to discuss their answers in pairs T shows the answers on the board.

Post-Reading activity/speaking activity (3-10 minutes) • To provide students with a speaking task

Tsets the task and gives instructions T gives the Ss picutres of contemporary and ancient heros/heroines . T gives the Ss information and prompts about the pictures in the task T divide the Ss into groups/pairs Ss will choose one picture then talk about it Ss work in pairs dicuss the quqlities of the heros/heroines and their achivements if they know T monitors Ss swap their partner and the pictures T corrects the errors of the Ss if there is any
