Procedure (45-59 minutes)
at first stage , I will pre-teach vocabulary about lottery by asking students some questions. I will write lottery on the board and elicit the meaning.I will say,Imagine you have won the lottery.How do you feel about it?what do you want to do with your money?Then I will tell them to discuss it in pairs and I will ask from them in class.
For exercise 1, I will tell students to read the instructions and tell me what they should do and after that they will check it in pairs and then I will ask from them.Then,for the second part,They will read the text quickly and after that,I ask : 1-why is it sometimes unlucky to win the lottery?first in pairs they will discuss ,then I will ask it from one or two students in class.
For exercise 3,I will ask students that when do we use the past simple?and I will practice some pronunciation of the verbs in the box.And then,I will ask students to think of more examples for rules 1 to 3.For instance: wait-waited,stop-stopped,carry-carried,like-liked,find-found,think-thought.Then I will give students 2 minutes to read the text in exersice 2 again and find the past simple varbs.They then match the verbs with the rules.At first they will do it individually and then in pairs and then I will ask from them.As a homework,I will them to do the grammer builder at the bottom of the page.
For exercise 4,I will ask students what we should do?then,I will ask one student to complete the first sentence.Then,they have 5 minutes to complete it on their own and then in pairs and finally we will check them in class.
For exercise 5,I will ask students to read the text quickly.I will elicit the basic story from a student.I will ask:Is Michael Carroll happier now that he has lost all his money?Then students should complete the text on their own and then In pairs and then I will play the recording to check and then I will ask from students in class.For exersice 6,I will ask,how do you think Alex and Michael felt after everything that happened to them?I will elicit adjectives such as upset,anxious,ashamed,embarrassed and relieved.And then In pairs students students will discuss the questions and then I will check with them in class.
For exercise 7,students should read the instructions and I will make sure if they understand it totally .Then I will ask one student to complete the first sentence and then they have 5 minutes to complete the whole exersice after that they will check it in pairs and then I will ask them in class.
For exercise 8,I will ask students to think about a situation in their lives when they experienced the feelings.They then take turns to tell each other about the situations.I will remind them to use modifying adverbs where possible.Then I will monitor and check pronunciation and grammar.For extra practice,students can write about one of the situations their partner described to them.
