Procedure (45-59 minutes)
T greets Ss and shows pictures related to travel / trips (holiday destinations, suitcases, airplanes). T asks Ss simple, personalized questions: Do you like traveling? What kind of trips do you like? Ss discuss briefly in pairs. T conducts open class feedback and introduces the idea of planning trips. T writes “TripAside” on the board and elicits or explains that it is a website/app for planning trips.
T sets a gist task: You’re going to listen/read about people using TripAside. What are they planning to do? Ss listen to or read a short dialogue/text from Unit 3A about travel plans and predictions. Ss answer gist questions (e.g. Where are they going? What are they planning?). T checks answers briefly with the whole class. T does not explain grammar yet.
T displays or writes model sentences taken directly from the text: We’re going to visit Rome next month. She’s going to book a hotel tonight. It’s going to rain. T asks Ss to underline or notice the similar structure. T asks noticing questions: Which words are the same in all sentences? T circles be + going to on the board.
T asks Concept Checking Questions (CCQs): Plans: Did they decide now or before? → Before Is it a plan? → Yes Predictions: Do we see evidence now? → Yes Is it just a guess? → No T contrasts briefly with present continuous if needed (very lightly).
Ss complete a gap-fill exercise from Unit 3A: They ____ going to stay in a hotel. Ss work individually. Ss check answers in pairs. T checks answers with the whole class and corrects errors. Focus is on accuracy.
Ss complete a matching or sentence completion activity: Match situations with predictions or plans. Ss work in pairs. Ss create their own sentences using prompts (e.g. weather pictures, travel plans). T monitors and notes errors. Brief delayed feedback.
Ss work in pairs or small groups. Task: Plan a trip using TripAside. Include: Where they’re going What they’re going to do Predictions about the trip Ss speak freely using be going to. T monitors without interrupting. T conducts delayed error correction and praises good use of the target language. Outcome By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: Use be going to accurately for future plans and predictions Speak confidently about travel plans in a real-life context.
