Ask students: "Do you consider yourself fit? What do you do to stay fit? Do you think you eat healthy or healthily?" So we can start interacting with the main topic of the class and know the opinions of students.
Listen to short dialogue (or read transcript) where speakers agree/disagree. Ask: What was the topic? What is each speaker opinion? And two write down two expressions they heard. Practice with some prompts and drill expressions.
Students are going to do a task where they are going to practice the expressions with conversations functions. Ss are going to highlight the expressions with the correct functions. A) Ah no, that’s not true. B. Softening disagreement C. Asking for clarification. D. Disagreeing E. Strong agreement + concession F. Challenging/ expressing surprise 2. i ’m not sure i agree 3. Well, i don’t know about that, but i think.. 4. I guess so, yes. You’re probably right 5. You’re absolutely right. 6. Really? You think so?
Ss are going to discuss different views on staying healthy (diet vs exercise) E,g,. Diet: Diet has a bigger impact. Exercise: Exercise matters more. And are going to complete the table with their opinions. Role play. You’re discussing how to stay healthy. One person believes in exercise, the other in diet. Use the conversation phrases to manage the discussion. Student has to use pharses, like: I see what you mean, but I think sleep is just as important as exercise.” “You’re absolutely right — healthy food makes a huge difference.” “Really? You think so? I’m not convinced.” “Talking of fitness, have you tried swimming?” “Are you saying that diet doesn’t matter at all?”
Make error corrections if necessary.
