Subsidiary Aims

To provide practice of phrases and collocations through speaking and listening activities in the context of fixing things
Procedure (34-36 minutes)
Students will see a group of pictures and they will express what problems they see in there. Then, there will be CCQ's to see what happened in each case. For image A: Is the car working well? (No) Is it a serious problem (Yes) Does it need fixing (Yes) Image B: Can people use the ATM? (No) Image C: Is the phone bettry full? (No) Does it need charging (Yes) Image D: Is there a virus in the laptop (Yes) Can someone work with a computer like that (No) Image E: Is something leaking (Yes) Does it need fixing (Yes)
Students will read an article about technological problems that happened in an office. First, they will do a gist reading to know what the main idea of the text is. Then, in open feedback we eill see the answer. After that, there will be a detailed reading about the same article, where students will answer some open questions related to the article. Then students will check the exercise in open feedback to see what students answered about the article.
Students will match in two minutes the multi-part verbs in two categories: problems and solutions. Once they finish doing it, the teacher will check the answers and will pose CCQ's about them, having a form focus. CCQ: What are these we see here (verbs, adjectives)? (The teacher underlines in the whiteboard the words) CCQ: What are the expressions that are next to the verbs (adverbs, prepositions) (prepositions). Then, in a Wordwall activity -in case it doesn't work properly, the teacher will use Google slides- we will see an exercise to see the form and if it's correct to put the pronoun after the verb and the particle (sort out it instead of sort it out). Next, a pronunciation exercise will be held. Students will listen to a recording from IPA Phonics to put phrasal verbs in the correct stress pattern. Once students do this exercise, we will repeat the pronunciation according to what we heard.
Students will fill in the gaps some sentences according to everything that was explained previously. Once they finish, the teacher will check the exercises to see if the answers are correct.
Students will make a speaking exercise. In pairs, they will talk about technological problems. Student 1 will choose two multi-part verbs related to problems. After that, he will think of two technological devices and say what problems they have. On the other hand, student 2, will choose two multi-part verbs related to solutions and give some advice about what they can do to fix them or get them fixed. The teacher will listen to different groups to get some ideas of what they said and once the activity is concluded, DEC will be made to highlight strenghts and common mistakes students had in the exercise.
