Description

In this lesson, the students will learn the names of different fruits. First the names of the fruit will be taught, then they will do a trolley dash to get all the items in the shopping basket in the shortest amount of time. Then in teams they will compose a fruit salad.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide practice for using the names of fruit in the context of making a fruit salad.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of food.

Procedure

Warmer (6-8 minutes) • To get students interested in the content and gauge students' prior knowledge of names of fruit

Display fruits one by one and have them say what it is, flashcards of the picture of the fruits are already on the board. Have them pick the word from the table and stick it underneath the picture. At the end of the warmer, elicit that all of these are called fruits.

Powerpoint - Name the fruits (8-10 minutes) • To practice the names of the fruits

Flash the image of some fruits from a powerpoint and in groups the students have to say what they saw in the image

Trolley Dash (8-10 minutes) • Students practice differentiating plural and singular names of fruits

Students are put into two groups. They are given different shopping lists (posted on the whiteboard) and 30 seconds to get the items on their list. They run to the board and shout out the names of the fruits they are grabbing. Then check with their team whether they have the right items.

Guessing - Tasting Game (13-15 minutes) • To enable students to use fruit vocabulary and to use "There are ........... in your fruit salad"

The students choose 6 fruits per team and write it down on a paper to go in their fruit salad. The other group has to guess what is in their fruit salad by tasting it and saying: There is ...... in your fruit salad."
