Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide detailed listening practice using a text about making future arrangements in the context of a busy schedule
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide fluency speaking practice in the context of making, accepting, and declining invitations
Procedure (37-46 minutes)
I'll ask students: Have you ever tried to meet a friend who was very busy? What problems did you have? we will discuss this a bit before getting into the lesson
As a class i will bring up the following words in the context of reading and clear any confusion about these words Words: layover, guided tour, colleague, climate change, organized
I'll give the gist question from 3a What's the only time they can meet? I'll play the audio students will listen and write the answer (Tuesday morning at 11:00). I'll ask Why is it so difficult for them to meet? (Because Jake's schedule is very full).
I'll refer students to the list in 3b. I'll replay the audio and students will: Write meet Sarah in the correct place on their own paper/imagining the calendar Listen and note which appointments from the list Jake has and what time they are. Then we will check the answers as a class. What are the two appointments NOT needed?
I'll go ahead and ask do you think they're going to meet again? Why (not)? Discuss in pairs, then as a class. Then we will do a quick roleplay activity Student A is visiting a city for work and is very busy. Student B is a friend who wants to meet. They must find one time to meet. They should use phrases like in the listening i will watch over their conversations for any error or mistakes
