To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion of lifestyles and their personal habits in the context of using time idioms and collocations.

To provide gist and listening for detail practice using a text between colleagues in the context of career and lifestyles
Procedure (37-45 minutes)
Show 2 pictures: a man working calmly and focused, a man stressed working at night. Ask: What is happening in these pictures? How do you think the people feel? Which person looks stressed? Why? Do you think they waited till the last minute to do the work? Which person looks like they have good time management? Which picture is more similar to your life?
Listening 1: T says: "Now we are going to listen to a conversation between two coworkers. While you are listening find out what the main theme of their conversation is." Show questions on G-Slide and listen to audio once. Send link to G-Form in chat for Ss to answer what the summary of the conversation was. Give Ss a minute and a half to answer the question. OCFB. Listening 2: Send Ss a link to the G-Slide. Show Ss they each have their own slide with sentences from the audio with missing words. "Now we are going to listen a second time and fill in the blanks with the missing words." T plays audio again. Ss check their answers in small groups in BORs. T shows answers on slide. OCFB. Now lets look at the phrases about time more closely.
CCQs: Time flies: Does it mean time feels faster or slower? (faster) Does ‘behind the times’ mean he knows all about the latest technology and ideas or that he doesn’t know much? (doesn’t know much) Does it mean someone is physically late (like late for class or a doctor’s appointment)? (no) Elicit examples: Is there anything you are behind the times in? At the last minute: Did they do the task early or late? (late) Does it mean exactly one minute before? (no) Elicit examples: What is something you often finish just before the deadline? Is time management about using time well? (yes) Elicit examples: Are you good at time management or bad at it? Time and again: Does it happen once or many times? (many times) Is it about the past, present, or both? (both) Elicit examples: Is there something you keep repeating even though you want to change it? Like a habit? Does ‘in hindsight’ talk about the future or the past? (the past) Does it mean you now understand something you didn’t before? (Yes) Can you use it for something that hasn’t happened yet? (No) If someone is ‘up to speed’, do they know the latest information? (yes) Does it mean they are physically fast? (no) Highlight form: Idioms: time flies, behind the times, the last minute, and up to speed Noun: time management Adverbial phrase: time and again Show G-slide with 3 sentences. Elicit from Ss what are content words. Have Ss underline content words. Explain that content words are the words we stress when saying a sentence. Listen to a recording of the 3 sentences. Check answers. Drill pronunciation chorally and individually with stress on content words.
Ss talk about their habits and share stories in pairs using TL. Elicit from Ss what TL they remember. T Share G-Slide with Discussion Questions. Instructions: In pairs Ss take turns asking each other questions and asking follow up questions to learn more information. Put Ss in pairs in BORs. Send questions in the chat. Change partners halfway through. Monitor Ss with camera off.
OCFB and DEC - Write examples of good language and sentences which need improvement on G-Slide. Share screen and elicit from Ss which ones they think are good and which need improvement. Have Ss work together to correct sentences where needed.
