Materials

Abc Navigate Student’s Book C1

Main Aims

  • To introduce and provide practice of speaking for fluency when reaching a consensus

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification about key vocabulary for discussion and reaching a consensus

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To engage students in professional-themed topic discussion

T shows an image in which a workplace can be seen and tells Ss that they are reorganizing its space. In that context, a nice room with given features is available and they have to discuss about what can that room be used for.

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through listening in the context of professional negotiation to reach a consensus

1. Ss listen to an audio played by the T and while they listen, they have to tick off the expressions they hear, avoiding to tick the phrases they do not hear. To do so, they have to drag the tick mark symbol into the square next to it. They work individually. 2. Ss listen again and do a "true / false" activity. This second time they work in pairs and check their results. After that, T provides answer key and transcription. Open feedback.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

1. Ss work in pairs and match phrases from the text (in green, marked with letters) to different categories (identified with numbers) corresponding to their meaning. After Ss finish T shows answer key. 2. Ss are presented a table with different form features, which they have to identify and match to their corresponding phrases. Ss work in pairs. After Ss finish T shows answer key. 3. T shows some phrases from the text, in which the stress point can be seen. Teacher models the pronunciation and Ss practice it.

Productive Task(s) (15-18 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

1. T provides a text which describes the context for Ss to have speaking practice. They are visiting a city and have to use the information provided to plan a day. They have to try to reach a consensus, using TL. 2. The next slide shows 3 negotiation situations, and includes two different perspectives, one for "student A", and one for "student 2". This content will be provided if Ss finish the previous activity faster than expected, to give more context to discuss about.

Feedback and Error Correction (6-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T has been observing, taking notes for delayed error. In this phase, T shares his observations with Ss.
