Description

In this lesson students will learn new vocabulary in the context of sport. The lesson starts with a discussion about doing sports and this is followed by a reading text about football. Finally there is a freer speaking activity “ how sporty are you?”

Procedure

lead in • to generate interest in the topic

Teacher shows some pictures about sport T asks students if they like sport. T asks students what kind of sports they do. T asks students to talk in pairs about the sport they do. T gets some individual answers from SS

Building Context • to generate interest while establishing a clear context.

T gives a Ho on which there are pictures. T asks SS to match the pictures individually with the words given. T gives SS one minute to match them. T asks SS to check the answers in pairs. T gives pens to SS to write the answers on the board. ICQs Are we going to show our paper to our friend? How much time have we got?

Presentation • To clarify meanings so learners understand it.

T drills the new words While drilling T shows the pictures too so that students learn both meaning and the pronunciation.

Practice • to provide controlled practice focused on using the vocabulary

T gives HO2 T asks SS to match the words given with their definitions. T gives SS three minutes to match them individually. T asks SS to check the answers in pairs. T gives the answers. T gives a T/F HO, reading text about football. Asks students to read it and answer the questions individually. SS check their answers in pairs.
